The new initiative by Univers unites industry, academia, and technology leaders to drive AI and IoT innovation via the AI Lab.

Univers, a global leader in AI for Energy, launched the world’s first Global Impact AI Lab (IAL) in collaboration with AMD, Microsoft, and the National University of Singapore (NUS), supported by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) of Singapore.

The announcement was made at the One Univers event on 28 October, officiated by Mr Tan Kiat How, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Digital Development and Information.

Designed to accelerate enterprise-scale AI and IoT innovation, IAL brings together technology, academic, and governance expertise to deliver edge-to-cloud intelligence at unprecedented speed and impact. It will focus on advancing digital transformation across the energy, infrastructure, transportation, and manufacturing sectors, turning complex business challenges into scalable, real-world solutions.

“AI and IoT achieve their full potential when powered by strong partnerships,” said Michael Ding, Global Executive Director of Univers. “IAL unites leading industry and academic expertise to transform innovation into enterprise advantage.”

Driving AI-Powered Efficiency Across Systems

IAL targets three linked efficiency gains: boosting energy efficiency by using AI to optimise generation, storage, and consumption; elevating operational efficiency by connecting assets, systems, and processes for greater reliability and productivity; and advancing system efficiency through AI-enabled orchestration that unifies ecosystems across energy, infrastructure, transport, and manufacturing to deliver interoperable, end-to-end intelligence.

“AMD is collaborating with Univers on the IAL to accelerate innovation and showcase the benefits of heterogeneous computing for powering edge AI and enabling enterprises to operate smarter, faster, and more securely at scale,” said Yousef Khalilollahi, Corporate Vice President and General Manager, Embedded Business Group, AMD.

“This collaboration accelerates enterprise digital transformation by bringing intelligent, AI-powered solutions from concept to real-world impact,” said Saj Kumar, Regional Business Leader – Manufacturing, Microsoft.

“This collaboration reflects NUS’s commitment to building strong industry-academia partnerships that prepare our students to thrive in the age of AI,” said Professor Bernard Tan, Senior Vice-Provost (Undergraduate Education), NUS.

The establishment of the Global Impact AI Lab reinforces Singapore’s leadership in public-private collaboration for digital innovation. By integrating enterprise AI, IoT, and edge computing with real-world applications, Univers and its partners are creating a global model for responsible, scalable, and sustainable AI adoption.
