Airline customers under the AI forecasting solution have seen reduced cost in their FX rates for online ticket sales.

Citi and Ant International have launched a pilot programme using Ant’s Falcon Time-Series Transformer (TST) Model to enhance FX risk management for global businesses, beginning with the airline industry.

The AI forecasting solution combines Citi’s Fixed FX Rates product with Ant International’s AI forecasting engine to help airlines manage foreign exchange exposure with greater precision, predictability, and cost control.

Developed with aviation clients as the first use case, the pilot targets the airlines sector, where billions in payments are processed across dozens of currencies annually, often facing volatile rates that impact profitability. The AI forecasting solution enables them to lock in fixed FX rates for a defined period while benefiting from high-accuracy sales and exposure forecasts—ultimately reducing the need for over-hedging.

By pairing this capability with Citi’s Fixed FX Rates, which is used in over 70 currencies by leading travel and e-commerce firms, clients can secure rate certainty and drive strategic pricing and budgeting decisions. The combination has already been deployed with a leading Asian airline, delivering significant savings in hedging costs.

Sam Hewson, Global Head of FX Sales at Citi, said: “We are constantly evolving our products and solutions to support new use cases built on our clients’ priorities. Citi’s Fixed FX Rates solution supports some of the world’s largest e-commerce and travel names and this innovative solution sees us leveraging best-in-class technology capabilities in the broader ecosystem to accelerate go-to-market use cases.”

Kelvin Li, General Manager of Platform Tech at Ant International, said: “This is the first industry-tailored solution developed from our Falcon TST Model with a bank partner to serve their customers. It’s an important milestone in our journey to leverage AI for FX management for our businesses, partners, and also merchants.”
