The launch of EMPWRD aligns with both Pride Month and Juneteenth, while offering tools to help navigate bias in workplaces.

EMPWRD, an AI-powered platform by Create Labs Ventures, seeks to empower marginalised communities, brands, and everyday users with equity-driven tools.

This includes leveraging trusted datasets from partners like Queerly and TONL to ensure inclusive, community-centred interactions when interacting with their chatbots, an inclusive image generator for authentic representation, and a document analysis tool to flag bias in professional and legal documents.

As AI technology becomes increasingly embedded in decision-making systems such as hiring platforms, so too do the biases of its training data. EMPWRD instead employs a community-driven foundation with inclusive datasets by TONL and input from Black, Indigenous, Latinx, disabled, and immigrant creators.

The features of the platform include a community-trained chatbot, a bias detection tool, an inclusive image generator, and a tailored network consisting of pro bono legal advice, mental healthcare, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) consultants.

“At EMPWRD, we’re not trying to be everything for everyone,” said Abran Maldonado, founder of EMPWRD. “We’re building a platform with and for the communities who’ve been sidelined for too long — Black and Brown folks, LGBTQ+ users, immigrants, people with disabilities. We want to make sure AI works for us, not against us.”

Over the next few months, EMPWRD will unveil new collaborations and community “data drops” from marginalised groups.
