Overherd aims to revolutionise on-chain social media through anonymous engagement and quality-based rewards.
Anonymity-focused social media dApp, Overherd, announced its alpha launch, allowing the first 100 of over 13,000 waitlisted users to access its platform.
Built on Sei, Overherd aims to bring a new approach to decentralised social media by providing an anonymity-first experience and shifting focus to social interactions instead of the underlying blockchain technology.
There are currently 5.17 billion social media users worldwide, but decentralised social media applications garner around 25 million users at most, indicating that there’s still a considerable hurdle to achieve mainstream adoption, which Overherd aims to rectify this trend.
Built by founding team members of the anonymous location-based platform Yik Yak, theplatform aims to introduce a new approach to social interactions by rewarding users for genuine engagement and quality content, while using token economics to enhance user experiences.
A core component of Overherd is its anonymity feature, where contributions are ranked by content value instead of being based on the creator behind the post. Users can remain anonymous but have the flexibility to reveal their identity if desired.
This enables Overherd to prioritise content over accounts with a mass following, unlike traditional social media algorithms, with users being rewarded for contributing valuable content through a “best content wins” model.
“Distracted by tokens and trading volumes, today’s SocialFi platforms have lost sight of their value. Overherd is built to create an all-inclusive and empowering environment where everyone can connect and participate, bringing true social experiences to everyone. We are thrilled to finally unveil Overherd launching on Sei and will continue our mission of building social first,” said Sherpa, Co-Founder of Overherd.
“By putting anonymity and social interactions first, Overherd will lead the new wave of decentralised social platforms successfully integrating into everyday life and onboarding mainstream users,” shared Jayendra Jog, co-founder of Sei Labs. “We are very honoured to have Overherd build on Sei, and together we’ll build towards a better blockchain future.”
The first 100 waitlist members will receive an invitation to sign up for Overherd, with each active user being able to invite one new member per day. Find out more about the waitlist.
