Data infrastructure company Qbeast aims to use the funding to accelerate the development of the first open, multi-dimensional indexing layer.
Data infrastructure company Qbeast has raised US$7.6 million to scale its multi-dimensional indexing technology for Delta Lake, Apache Iceberg, and Apache Hudi data formats.
Originating from research done at the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre, the seed funding round was led by Peak XV’s Surge, with participation from HWK Tech Investment and Elaia Partners. The funding will be used to expand the team, support broader analytics use cases, and develop the company’s indexing capabilities for open data formats.
The company’s platform integrates directly with Delta Lake, Apache Iceberg, and Apache Hudi, providing multi-dimensional indexing designed to accelerate query performance and reduce compute costs. It aims to improve how organisations filter large datasets across multiple attributes such as time, geography, or customer segments, and is compatible with other compute engines.
Qbeast’s CEO Srikanth Satya, a former AWS and Microsoft Azure executive, said: “”We built Qbeast to make high-performance analytics simple and accessible, without locking organisations into proprietary systems. In a world where data is growing faster than ever, we’re here to ensure every company can turn that data into value on their own terms.”
“There is an undesirable compute cost hidden in the data layout that has been highly neglected by the market for data lakehouses,” shared Flavio Junqueira, CTO of Qbeast and co-creator of Apache ZooKeeper and Apache BookKeeper. “Our technology enables customers across verticals to reduce or even eliminate such costs in a manner that embraces the openness of the data lakehouse stack and that is both engine and format neutral.”
The team includes contributors to open-source distributed systems and continues to build for compatibility across various cloud providers and engines. Looking ahead, the company plans to introduce features such as auto-tuning, adaptive indexing, and expanded support for additional engines and cloud platforms.
