In the latest episode of Quantum Minds, the COO and Co-founder of The Sandbox asks the big question: “Is the metaverse dead?”

Quantum Minds released its third episode of the season, featuring Sebastien Borget, Chief Operating Officer and Co-founder of The Sandbox Game. The episode explored the evolution of the metaverse and examined what lies ahead for digital worlds built on blockchain technology.

Hosted by Kapil Dhiman, Chief Executive Officer of Quranium, the conversation delved into the origins of The Sandbox, its early adoption of blockchain, and the platform’s vision of empowering creators to design, own, and monetise their content. Borget discussed both the opportunities and challenges of building a truly open and interoperable metaverse while reflecting on the industry’s current state.

“NFTs are dead. Metaverse is dead. So what should we do?” Borget asked, referencing the scepticism surrounding the sector. He acknowledged that while the vision of a seamless and connected metaverse remains compelling, much work is still needed to realise it.

“Our mission is to empower anyone to become a creator,” Borget explained, emphasising The Sandbox’s commitment to enabling user-driven innovation.

“Don’t forget [that] this is the fundamental you need to [create a] product that’s attractive.” added Borget, underscoring the importance of building experiences that retain and re-engage users.

The episode also addressed the importance of sustainable product strategies and restoring trust within the industry. Borget stressed the need to focus on building products that deliver genuine value, saying, “Don’t chase just the player. Chase for the creator. Let them do fun content and train them.”
