Shardeum is set to engage over 400 students at Game-a-thon 2025 as part of the PayFi Mini Hackathon.
Layer-1 blockchain Shardeum announced the launch of India’s first PayFi-focused mini hackathon in collaboration with WeCraft Studio.
As part of the upcoming Game-a-thon 2025, the initiative aims to introduce over 400 students from top Indian institutions, including the IITs and NITs, to next-generation financial innovation powered by blockchain.
Shardeum’s developer-first platform plays a critical role in enabling this transition. It supports low gas fees for cost-effective micro and frequent transactions, delivers high throughput to accommodate real-world payment volumes.
Developers can also benefit from extensive tools and well-documented resources that streamline rapid prototyping and deployment. Participants in the hackathon will receive direct support from the Shardeum team, along with access to these developer tools, helping them bring their ideas from concept to creation.
The PayFi Mini Hackathon invites student teams to build practical, blockchain-based payment solutions across a variety of themes. These include systems that can support both micro and macro transactions, cross-border remittance platforms, and tipping solutions using crypto. User experience is also a central focus, with participants encouraged to rethink wallet design and payment interfaces for mass adoption.
Other key areas span the development of peer-to-peer and point-of-sale applications for everyday use, building APIs and infrastructure that empower other developers, and creating seamless integrations for gaming, social platforms, and local commerce.
Submissions will be assessed for technical soundness, user interface quality, relevance to real-world needs, and overall innovation.
“We’re not just launching a hackathon, we’re igniting India’s PayFi revolution. These brilliant minds will build the financial infrastructure that will power India’s next decade of digital growth. We’re giving them the tools to solve real problems that affect millions of people every day,” said Shahzad Nathani, Head of Operations and Partnerships at Shardeum.
To qualify, teams must submit a working prototype supported by technical documentation, a user experience demonstration, and a business case presentation, all leveraging the Shardeum blockchain. Full guidelines, timelines and platform access are available through the official hackathon channels.
