Over SG$81,000 in cash was almost stolen from a crypto buyer after being threatened at knifepoint, but the suspects were soon apprehended.
Three individuals, including two men and a male teenager, have been apprehended by the police on charges of conspiracy to commit robbery.
The incident happened on November 18, 2023, after a case of robbery was reported along Punggol Field. Preliminary investigations revealed that the 33-year-old victim had been contacted with an offer on Telegram to trade cryptocurrency tokens in exchange for cash.
The victim met a 16-year-old male teenager at Punggol Field, in which the teenager allegedly seized the money bag and attempted to escape with a total sum of SG$81,000. The victim pursued and managed to stop the teenager, who brandished a kitchen knife but dropped it during the encounter. With assistance from two men and a woman, the teenager was detained and subsequently arrested by the police and the cash was fully recovered.
Based on extensive ground enquiries and camera footage, authorities identified two other men connected to the incident. A 33-year-old man was arrested in the Circuit Road vicinity by officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division and Bedok Police Division, and a 27-year-old man was subsequently apprehended along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 9, both on the same day as the report.
The 33-year-old man and the 16-year-old male teenager are set to face charges of conspiracy to commit robbery in court on November 20, 2023, under Section 392 read with Section 109 of the Penal Code, and investigations against the 27-year-old man are still ongoing.
