Check Point Research found that ransomware victims surged 87% and GenAI data exposure became a routine enterprise risk.
Check Point Research, the threat intelligence arm of Check Point Software Technologies, found that organisations worldwide faced an average of 2,336 cyber attacks per week in its Global Threat Intelligence insights for July 2026.
The findings showed that cyber attacks are up 3% month on month, and 16% year on year. Education remained amongst the most targeted sector at 4,848 weekly attacks per organisation, followed by Government (3,044), Telecommunications (2,927), and Energy and Utilities (2,759, up 20%),
According to the report, Latin America (LATAM) remained the most attacked region at 3,561 weekly attacks per organisation, followed by APAC with 3,316 attacks. Ransomware attacks also reached 964 in July, up 49% from June and 87% year on year, breaking from the roughly 672 monthly incidents averaged in the first half of 2026.
GenAI-related exposure also became a routine business risk in July. One in every 36 enterprise prompts carried a high risk of sensitive data leakage, 88% of regular GenAI-using organisations were affected by high-risk prompt activity, and personal data was the most commonly exposed category, appearing in 70% of organisations.
Email remained a high-volume risk channel too, with one in every 128 emails classified as phishing and a further 20% falling into risky categories such as graymail and spam.
Omer Dembinsky, Data Research Manager at Check Point Research, said: “July’s data shows that cyber risk is accumulating across multiple fronts at once. Attack volumes continue to rise, ransomware has accelerated sharply, and GenAI exposure is now part of daily business activity. “
