The annual report by Crypto.com also saw 43.16% of BTC holders holding ETH digital assets in their portfolio.
According to Crypto.com’s Crypto Market Sizing Report, the global number of cryptocurrency owners continued to expand in 2025, rising by 12.4% from 659 million holders in 2024 to 741 million by December 2025.
The annual report tapped into the growth that the crypto market experienced in 2025, dividing the results into different metrics.
First, Bitcoin ownership grew by 8.3%, increasing from 337 million to 365 million holders and accounting for 49.3% of total global crypto owners. A key inflection point occurred in March, when the United States established a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and Digital Asset Stockpile through an Executive Order.
In parallel, spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) continued to expand access, with estimates suggesting an additional 300,000 to 1.3 million investors gained BTC exposure through ETF structures.
Ethereum recorded stronger relative growth, with ETH ownership rising by 22.6% from 142 million to 175 million holders, and accounting for 23.6% of global crypto owners. The momentum coincided with the start of a new US administration, heightened discussion around digital asset treasury (DAT) strategies among public companies, and anticipation surrounding Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade.
Overall adoption trends also showed resilience across asset classes. Approximately 43.16% of Bitcoin holders also own Ethereum, indicating growing multi-asset participation within the crypto user base.
Meanwhile, 89% of users continue to rely on exchanges as their primary access point, reflecting the importance of centralised infrastructure in onboarding new participants.
Monthly growth spikes further illustrate the influence of macro and institutional catalysts. January recorded 3.4% growth, March saw 1.2%, and September registered 1.9%, aligning with policy developments and heightened corporate interest in digital asset treasury strategies.
Despite periods of market uncertainty and volatility throughout the year, the upward trajectory of global ownership suggests maturing investor behaviour.
By the end of 2025, crypto ownership had reached new highs, reinforcing the view that adoption is increasingly embedded within global financial infrastructure.
