Offchain has partnered with Hyungji to deploy a stablecoin payment infrastructure built on Arbitrum across Hyungji’s 2,000 retail outlets in Korea and Singapore.
Hyungji, described as Korea’s largest uniform manufacturer and operator of an extensive retail network, will integrate Arbitrum-based stablecoin payment rails across its physical and digital storefronts.
The infrastructure is designed to enable customers to transact with lower fees than traditional payment systems while providing Hyungji with faster settlement and reduced overhead costs.
Beyond payments, the partnership will also explore tokenisation of membership rewards programmes and integration with decentralised finance (DeFi) protocols. The release cited average retail payment processing fees of 2–3% per transaction and said merchant processing fees reached US$187 billion annually, positioning stablecoin payments as a way to reduce intermediaries and cross-border friction, while enabling programmable rewards systems and instant settlement.
AJ Warner, Chief Strategy Officer at Offchain, said: “Hyungji exemplifies the kind of forward-thinking enterprise that recognises blockchain’s practical benefits: lower costs, faster settlement, and programmable functionality that creates tangible value for both businesses and customers.”
Junho Choi, Vice Chairman of Hyungji, said: “From stablecoin payments to programmable rewards and DeFi integration, we’re creating infrastructure that benefits our customers and positions Hyungji at the forefront of retail innovation.”
