LayerTwo Labs launched eCash, a Bitcoin-based network using Drivechain technology to support specialised sidechains.

Bitcoin development company LayerTwo Labs has launched eCash (ECX), a blockchain network built using its BIP 300 Drivechain technology to support the development of specialised blockchains known as sidechains.

Founded by Paul Sztorc, LayerTwo Labs has been developing Drivechains, an architecture that allows developers to create independent blockchains with their own rules and functionality while maintaining connections to a shared mainchain.

eCash is built as a separate hard fork of Bitcoin and activates the Drivechain architecture developed by LayerTwo Labs through Bitcoin Improvement Proposals BIP 300 and BIP 301. The technology allows assets to move between the eCash mainchain and its sidechains, giving developers greater flexibility to build networks for specific applications.

Paul Sztorc, CEO of LayerTwo Labs, said: “After ten years of development, we are finally unlocking a free market, where builders can experiment without permission, users can choose which innovations have value, and the market decides what succeeds.”

Five sidechains were launched alongside the eCash mainnet and are designed to support a range of uses, including faster payments and privacy-focused transactions, digital assets, identity systems, and prediction markets.

Through this structure, LayerTwo Labs aims to expand Bitcoin-based development beyond the main network by providing infrastructure for specialised applications while allowing assets to move between interconnected blockchains.
