New OKX research finds 90% of US college students believe colleges should teach cryptocurrency topics as part of financial education.

A recent research by cryptocurrency exchange OKX found that 90% of US college students and 87% of parents believe colleges should cover crypto and blockchain as part of financial education, with 27% of students and 32% of parents saying it should be mandatory coursework rather than an elective.

When the same group was surveyed about their current sources of information, 33% of students named social media or influencers as their most important source for learning about crypto, compared to 7% who named school, teachers, or professors. This means that students are five times more likely to learn about digital assets from content creators.

Both generations broadly agree that students hold the knowledge edge, with 51% of parents saying that college students understand crypto, yet authority over first investment decisions is more contested, with 36% of students saying they should have the greatest influence, more than twice the 16% who named their parents.

Crypto is also steadily being treated as a long-term holding rather than a novelty, with 52% of students and 48% of parents describing buying crypto as a long-term investment. Furthermore, 56% of students also indicated that they would accept a job paying part of their salary in Bitcoin, pointing to an increased acceptance of BTC as a legitimate form of currency.
