Ripple and Meritz Securities will explore digital asset custody and tokenisation infrastructure for Korea’s capital markets.
Ripple has formed a strategic partnership with Meritz Securities, one of South Korea’s leading securities firms, to explore bringing its digital asset custody and tokenisation infrastructure into the country’s capital markets.
The partnership will initially explore Ripple Custody and Ripple’s tokenisation infrastructure. Meritz is also exploring several digital asset-related opportunities as it prepares the integration of digital assets into the financial system, including spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs), security tokens, and South Korean won-denominated stablecoins.
Byungha Kang, Managing Director of the Strategic Planning Unit, Meritz Securities said: “This partnership lays the foundation for combining Ripple’s global digital asset infrastructure with our capital markets capabilities.”
“Korea is one of the most dynamic digital asset markets in the world and its institutions are preparing to move from exploration to real-world utility,” added Fiona Murray, Managing Director for Asia Pacific at Ripple.
The partnership marks Ripple’s fourth institutional partnership in South Korea this year and its first with a securities firm. Kyobo Life Insurance is using Ripple Custody to work towards the country’s first tokenised government bond settlement on blockchain, while Kbank is deploying digital asset wallet infrastructure through the platform.
