The month-long hybrid hackathon aims to bring developers, designers and entrepreneurs to build solutions for pressing challenges.

AngelHack, one of the largest developer community with a network of over 300,000 software developers, has announced the launch of Singapore’s annual flagship hackathon, hacksingapore. Supported by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), the hackathon will last for a month throughout May.

The event is supported by partners such as Alibaba Cloud, Meta, VMWare, Mercedes Benz, Heineken, plus Trust Bank, and phygital event will end with a finale at the Asia Tech x Singapore (ATxSG) event with the winner receiving a grand prize of SGD50,000.

The hackathon aims to provide aspiring tech talents with skills that tech organisations require, and it will bring together trained or aspiring technology professionals from across the island to work on projects involving emerging technologies such as blockchain, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence (AI) that can positively impact Singaporean lives and communities.

The challenge statements given to the participants will be based on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and fall under three key themes: financial inclusion, sustainability, and digital empowerment.

Hacksingapore will also host HackSocials, which are two in-person events for participants to connect and interact with like-minded individuals and learn from tech experts. The event will also feature innovation workshops and mentor office hours to provide participants with greater training and resources to help bring their ideas to fruition.

More than 1,000 developers in Singapore are expected to participate in the hackathon. In the next phase, the concept will also travel to other cities such as Saigon, Seoul, Bangalore, and Mexico.

“Through this annual hackathon exercise, we intend to energise the developer community in Singapore through in-demand skills and mentorship, while creating exciting innovation opportunities for the tech sector through co-creation and collaboration,” says Justin Ng, Head of AngelHack.

“ It is thrilling to be able to support tech enthusiasts and developers at this event and see the creation of innovative and exciting solutions to pressing real-world problems firsthand. The next generation will drive the future of the digital world we live in, and it is important that they have access to the right opportunities and tools to use tech for good,” says Derek Wang, General Manager of Singapore, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence.

“Meta’s mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.
