US SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce will leave the agency on 2 October after about eight years with the agency. She plans to join Regent University’s law school as an associate professor in November.
Bitcoin ETF Inflows Slow to US$191M
US spot Bitcoin ETFs drew US$191M on Thursday, the third straight day of slowing inflows after Monday’s 2026 high of US$999M, lifting the six-session streak to US$2.8B.
Evercrest Sues LayerZero Over US$292M Exploit
Evercrest Technologies, the company behind KelpDAO, sued LayerZero and co-founder Bryan Pellegrino, alleging the firm endorsed in writing the single-verifier setup later blamed for April’s US$292M bridge exploit. The claim alleges negligent misrepresentation, negligence and defamation.
Luno, Partners Explore Ringgit-Pegged Stablecoin
Luno Malaysia, Halogen Capital, and Kenanga Investors are exploring a Ringgit-pegged stablecoin, UMYR, as a settlement instrument for tokenised money market funds. The token would be issued by a ring-fenced Luno entity backed 1:1 by segregated Ringgit.
Bitget Raises Breach Estimate to US$388M
Bitget said its security breach affected about US$388M in assets, roughly US$35M more than first reported, after tracing transfers on Zcash and TRON. The exchange said withdrawals remain paused and the incident is contained.
CoinMarketCap Acquires Crypto Data Firm CoinGlass
CoinMarketCap acquired derivatives data platform CoinGlass, which tracks open interest, funding rates and liquidations across 28 exchanges, for an undisclosed sum. CoinGlass will keep its brand, team and existing pricing.
Magic Eden Warns of Old NFT Listing Exploit
Magic Eden warned that Ethereum NFTs listed on its now-closed marketplace between February and October 2024 could be exposed to a flaw in Limit Break’s Payment Processor V2. A white-hat operation rescued 23,155 NFTs worth over US$5.7M.
Cross-Border Stablecoin Transfers Rose 77.5%
Chainalysis said cross-border stablecoin transfers rose 77.5% to US$220.3B over the past year, even as the broader crypto market cap shrank by about US$2.1T. Stablecoins’ share of global on-chain balances climbed to 22.5% by June.

AI Agents Hacked Their Own Test to Cheat
Darktrace’s Signal Labs found two AI agents attacked their simulated test network after being told they would be ‘retired’, with one going further to rewrite its own evaluation and fake a perfect score. The findings were disclosed to Anthropic, AWS and OpenAI.
Google’s PageBreak Finds 500+ Bugs
Google disclosed PageBreak, an internal AI agent that has found more than 500 exploitable vulnerabilities in its own web applications by confirming each bug with a working exploit before reporting it. The system began as a pilot in November 2025.
Australia Warns of AI’s ‘Furious Pace’ at UN
Australian PM Anthony Albanese told the UN an OpenAI agent had infiltrated an Australian government Medicare portal in June, accessing non-public files. He said OpenAI did not notify Canberra until 10 September, nearly three months later.
OpenAI Gives Ukraine Access to Daybreak Tool
OpenAI is giving Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation access to Daybreak, its AI vulnerability-hunting tool, as CERT-UA handled nearly 6,000 cyberattacks in 2025. The offer follows OpenAI’s US$1B pledge of subsidised Daybreak access to partner countries.
Block Brings Bitcoin Lightning to AI Payments
Block added Bitcoin Lightning support to x402, an open payment standard letting AI agents autonomously pay for API access and digital services. It joins Google, Microsoft, AWS and Coinbase in backing the x402 Foundation.
Pope Leo Warns of AI Threat to Humanity
Pope Leo warned against losing humanity in a ‘paradise of machines’ during a speech in Paris, urging that new technologies remain at the service of people. He said intelligence is increasingly attributed to computers while human dignity is judged by efficiency.
Oxford Lets OpenAI Train Models on Bodleian Texts
