The latest YouGov-Meltwater report shows that concern outpaces excitement in the AI era with misinformation topping the list.
Meltwater and YouGov’s latest report, Trust in the Age of Generative AI, found that Singaporeans are concerned about the impact of generative AI on their daily lives, even as adoption and acceptance continues to rise.
The study drew from insights of around 10,000 consumers across seven global markets, which found that about 64% of Singaporeans believe they can identify AI-generated content; 89% of those aged 18–24 claim they can spot output that has been generated by artificial intelligence.
While 55% of Singaporeans say they are excited about the future with AI, 83% express concern about its growing role in everyday life. Misinformation tops the list of worries, with 74% saying AI-generated content could be used for fake news or scams.
Despite these concerns, Singaporeans also recognised the benefits of using AI, with some reasons quoted being content creation, idea generation, and improved accessibility.
Overall, attitudes toward AI-generated content are evolving, and 33% of Singaporeans say their view has become more positive over the past year.
Mimrah Mahmood, APAC Enterprise Vice President at Meltwater, said: “High concern and genuine excitement exist side-by-side, and that indicates that trust has to be earned, not assumed. This shows that when brands are clear about how and why they use AI, they can build stronger connections with their audience.”
Andrew Farmer, Global Head of PR and Editorial at YouGov, added: “YouGov’s data suggests that ultimately, the brands that succeed in the generative era may not simply be those that adopt AI fastest, but those that earn and maintain the trust of the audiences they serve.”
