A TRG Datacenters report names Texas the top US AI hub, citing 9.17 million kilowatts of power capacity and 17 data centre clusters.

A report published in April 2026 named Texas the leading artificial intelligence (AI) superpower in the United States.

Conducted by data infrastructure provider TRG Datacenters, the study analysed computing power and innovation metrics nationwide and found that Texas has 9.17 million kilowatts of power capacity dedicated to AI workloads.

The report assessed five core factors in its AI Power Index: the number of AI clusters, H100 equivalents for total computing capacity, total AI chips, power capacity in kilowatts, and AI-related patents.

Texas ranked first with an index score of 79.4 out of 100, supported by 17 data centre clusters and 6.63 million H100 equivalents, the industry benchmark for high-performance processing. Tennessee ranked second with a score of 75.5, while California placed third. The ranking also identified Wisconsin and Louisiana as emerging hubs, placing fourth and fifth, respectively.

Eric Winegar, Managing Partner at TRG Datacenters, said: “States that combine advanced infrastructure with a skilled workforce, supportive regulations, and a network of AI companies and research institutions are the ones shaping the future of artificial intelligence.”

He added: “While some regions prioritise expanding their computing capacity, others focus on fostering innovation through specialised hardware, cutting-edge research, or policies that attract top talent and investment.”
